U.S. Faces Critical Nurse Shortage
An important story for our nursing students, our college, and our country.
National Public Radio (NPR) writes: “The demand for nurses is soaring, but it isn’t easy to get into nursing school these days because there aren’t enough teachers.”
This article discusses the shortage of nursing educators. One person interviewed had this to say: “Why would I want to be an educator when my salary is 50 percent of my colleague who is VP of nursing in the local hospital?” asks Mary Jane Williams, who teaches nursing at the University of Hartford.
I teach not exclusively for the pay, but for the value I place on education: it improves individuals and the world. There are more articles on this topic of the US nursing shortage and education; they are worth checking out. Listen to or read the article at NPR.org
